About Us
"Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors."
Journey of Faith United Methodist Church is a grace-filled progressive Christian community offering a safe place for asking the tough questions of faith in an atmosphere of unconditional acceptance.
We seek to offer acceptance to all people wherever they are in the faith journey. So, if you like to ask questions, are a bit skeptical of easy answers, and are open to a journey of discovering truth, this church is for you.
We are also a Reconciling Congregation, welcoming and affirming people of all sexual orientations and lifestyles.
Progressive in our theology, Journey of Faith offers small group studies that take advantage of the works of some of today's leading theologians and Bible scholars.
We invite you to consider joining us on the journey as we celebrate and explore Christian faith!
Our Staff
Pastor Glenda Whitehead
Reverend Glenda Whitehead, the founding pastor of Journey of Faith, brings 28 years ministry experience to her role as pastor. Glenda received a call to ministry in the United Methodist Church when she was 19 years of age. She was ordained a Deacon in 1987 and an Elder in 1990.
Glenda is a 1985 graduate of Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth, TX where she received a B.S. in Psychology, and the Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia earning a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) with honors in 1988.
In June, 1988 Glenda was appointed to First UMC, Belton, where she served as an Associate Pastor. In 1989, she joined the staff of First UMC, Temple where she served for 6 years. In 1995, Glenda was appointed pastor of the Hico and Pleasant Hill churches, serving there for 5 years. In 2000, she joined the staff of First UMC here in Round Rock, and was serving there when she was asked to plant a new church in Round Rock. With the help of a small group of dedicated individuals and families, Journey of Faith was born.
Glenda's greatest joy in life came in April, 2009 with the birth and her subsequent adoption of her son, Hunter Alexander Whitehead. A unique aspect of his adoption is the continued involvement of Hunter's birth parents and grandparents. Born out of a broad definition of family and the conviction that a child can never have too much love, Glenda is delighted to share Hunter with those who entrusted him to her care.
